The Mets hired Wayne Krivsky on Friday to work alongside Omar Minaya in the front office.
The Yankees ended their Tampa, Fla., organizational meetings Friday, leaving with a clearly defined list of priorities and a lot of options for the off-season.
Unfortunately, the star last night was the stadium and its food vendors, not the Mets. Even the cat came in second. To me, baseball should still be about the team, a collaborative effort of individuals to create something that exceeds the sum of their statistics and capabilities. It is about management, strategy, and performance, not about the facilities in the locker rooms, the corn and clam chowder, or the lines at the bathrooms. At the current prices, I expect I will attend fewer games at Citi than I did at Shea. Which is a shame, because I love the Mets, and because, as a taxpayer, I have helped to both fund the stadium and pay for the bailout of Citigroup. It's too bad they don't remove the bank's name from the stadium, and call it Taxpayers' Field. Or, how about borrowing an idea from the team across town, and name it after the true stars of the stadium, the real reason we all attend the games there, and just call it Mets' Stadium.
Ben Shpigel writes: "Fans sat patiently through the national anthem, sang by the cast of the Broadway revival “West Side Story,” and as a football-field-size American flag was unfurled in the outfield. " Having spent plenty of time at Shea, I know Mets fans can be a little rude, but sitting through the national anthem? I doubt it.
What happened to Seaver, he looks huge in the picture? i always thought he was concerned about his athletic image.
Oh what a game t'was to perceive, A great comeback, hard to believe, And then relief Beyond belief, Another grisly loss to grieve!
Maybe ESPN didn't show it but where were Met greats who were at the first game at the Polo Grounds or Shea? Plenty are still living, Ralph Kiner, Roger Craig (Dodger connected too), Ed Kranpool etc.
Now all they ned is a team that can win a ballgame or two.
